The cuisine is rich and varied. On the coast much fish is consumed fresh, but also the Portuguese are proud of the variety of ways to prepare salted cod. Each area of the country has its traditional dishes.Its mainland is bordered by a single nation, Spain, east and north, over 1,214 km and on the south and west by the North Atlantic Ocean during 1793 km of coastline.
